New Technics Digital Piano

Technics new SX-P50 portable digital piano offers the best of both worlds: the convenience of a portable model with the realistic dynamic sound of a Concert Grand piano. And with a new slim and stylish cabinet design in a striking platinum finish, this piano also looks as good as it sounds.

"Musicians on the road or students who are just starting out will really appreciate the superior quality of this affordable new model," says Dan Slick, assistant general manager, Technics Musical Instruments Division. "It has upper-end features such as a Natural Response Action keyboard that responds to the musician's touch, and other popular sounds and features that are usually found only on top-of-the-line instruments."

Technics' new Natural Response Action brings the realism of a concert grand piano to the SX-P50. On a Concert Grand piano, the key touch changes naturally from one end of the keyboard to the other as a result of the thickness of the strings. The new technology featured on this new Technics model replicates this progression by using four sets of graduated hammers. So, for example, the performer can recreate the feeling of key release, resulting in attacks that feel and sound natural and trills that are crisp and clear.

The new SX-P50 is equipped with 88 touch-response keys that acknowledge even the lightest touch. It offers 18 great piano sounds based on Dynamic Acoustic sampling, including concert grand, pop grand, strings, vocals and nine organ pre-sets from jazz to liturgical. For musical arrangements, the Technics SX-P50's MIDI capability gives the flexibility and creative versatility of more sophisticated units, at a fraction of the cost.

Other features include four reverb types (room/stage/hall/concert), key touch sensitivity (light, normal, heavy), a five-step brilliance control (ranging from mellow to bright) and an LCD display to help the pianist easily activate and monitor the piano's features. The Technics SX-P50 digital piano will be available in January, 2001 at Technics musical instruments dealers nationwide.

questions about Technics SX-P50 by Paolo Matteini

Dear Sirs
May you answer me to some questions I have about stage piano Technics SX-P50? Here(Italy) I haven't the possibility to test it because deliverers haven't it!
1-Can it keep the settings in its memory when turned off?
2-I'd like to know something about keyboard action: I know yet the p80 Yamaha, the Kaway, the Korg and Gem stage piano: which is the most similar?
3-What's your opinion between p80Yamaha and p50Technics? I don't like all the other(Kaway for the keyboard action, Korg p100 because in my opinion it doesn't sound homogeneous and Gem prp7 for the sound)

THANK YOU very much for all

Paolo Matteini from Florence-Italy

Technics p-50 by Lars

Technics should have included the fantastic Fender Rhodes sound which is on the previous version of this keyboard, the p-30. They do include two electric piano sounds on the p-50, but they are very different from the one on the p-30.
